Back in 1988 this album changed everything, for better of for worse is debatable. I remember it being so big, that even the scalls in school had/loved it (shitty dance music was more their thing at the time).
Every time I see the video for the title track off the album, it always makes me think of Chris Rock and his parody of it, 'Straight Outta Locash', in the 1993 film 'CB4' (if you aint seen it, do!).
Anyway, someone has kindly edited both versions together and posted it on YouTube, so enjoy!!

I've heard this song before on 'Blackout! 2', but I'd never caught the vid until today, and its a classic. Reg, Meth & Erick look fresh as fuck in the smooth crooner, Temptations style shit! Add to that Redman dressing up as Rick James, and ya know you're on to a winner!!
"International The type chick I like'll wheelie your bike ya know, rock the mic roll a philly up tight ya know, I like it though International"

Dennis Coles aka Ghostface Killah hits the grand age of 40yrs old today, May 9th 2010.
As with every other member of the Wu-Tang, there's a multitude of aliases he also goes under; GFK, Tony Starks, Ironman etc. But my fav has to be Starkey Love purely cos it reminds me of his verse on Raekwon's 'Ice Cream' (one of the tightest vids ever from the clan) and one of the earliest vids where GFK started showing his face on camera (from the outset of the clan he always covered-up his face, even during their first big appearance in the studio at 'Yo! MTV Raps'.)
All that aside, watch and enjoy GFK and the sexy tones of Madam Majestic in 'Cher Chez La Ghost'!

I've been listening to my iPod on shuffle in the car a lot lately, and on the way home from work the other day it spat this out. I've been listening to it nonstop since then cos it's a beast!
I've just looked the vid up on YouTube and its got all the elements which mean I should hate it
But I don't.
I FUCKIN LOVE IT!!
"Are u fuckin' mad? Next Hype! Whatevers askin 'whens the next tune?' this IS the fuckin next tune r u dumb?"
(If you wanna skip the Westwood part, go straight to 1:57).

DJ Premier's blog has sadly announced that Guru, aka Keith Elam, has died following multiple medical conditions/problems, at the criminally young age of 43. As the other half of Gang Starr, Guru's impact on hip-hop is huge and this truly is a great loss. There are SO many GS bangers that it was impossible for me to pick one, so instead I've gone with one of the first tracks from Guru's side project, 'Jazzmatazz'.
'No Time To Play' was a real breath of fresh air in 1993, and cemented Guru's position as an innovator in what was becoming a static genre at the time. The title/lyrics are pretty poignant; take heed.
RIP GURU July 17th 1967 - April 19th 2010

Like buses, no gigs for a while then two come at once, on the same night - 'Brother Ali' is due to play Korova in Liverpool, also on Friday the 19th of March!
Decisions, decisions....enjoy!

Yo! Just spotted that 'dan le sac vs. Scroobius Pip' are playing the Liverpool O2 Academy (the old L2 behind The Empire) Friday the 19th of March. Good stuff.
Do you remember a song called 'Sunscreen' by Baz Luhrmann, which was basically a list of advice from an 'experienced' perspective? Consider the song above a modern update.

Today rap legend Slick Rick is the grand old age of 45, but given the s**t he's been involved in during those years, you'd assume he's MUCH older!
If you don't know who Rick is, check his wiki for an eye-opener - Rick blows wannabe's out of the water for mad antics!
I appreciate that people (especially young'uns) might not like Rick's 'old school' style, but you're probably not aware of how many of your fav artists/beats/lyrics/samples are inspired by/taken from him! Check here for more details - ENJOY!

Today's Raekwon's 42st birthday and that gives me the opportunity to post one of my all-time favourite tunes, 'Heaven and Hell'. This was released back in October 1994 from the now classic album 'Only Built 4 Cuban Linx..' , which is still revered today as one of the best albums of the 'golden age' of hip-hop, the mid-90's.
I was gonna post-up one of the classic lines from this track, but there's way too many to choose from so hit 'READ MORE' to see the lot in full. Genius.

First up, 3 apologies: a) I'm still being way slack on updating this - I WILL step-up, b) the vid quality is poor (couldn't find a decent one on youtube), and c) its the 'edited' version (I hate 'sanitised' music - I'm a prolific swearer and hate people sensoring it!). That aside, here's the first single from 2002's 'A Sample and a Drum Machine' - proof that Canada can rap too! Enjoy!!
